Climate change is intensifying Malawi’s land degradation crisis. Tiyeni will empower farmers to build climate-resilient communities using our unique regenerative agriculture method, Deep Bed Farming. We will expand on the work with additional capacity-building for farmers on monitoring soil health.

Malawi is one of the world’s least-developed countries, ranking 172 of 191 in the UN development index. Many families are subsistence farmers who cannot grow enough crops to feed themselves. Farmed lands have hard layers of topsoil that restrict crop growth, lead to soil erosion, and prevent water from penetrating into the ground. These issues are increased by climate change (e.g. floods, drought). Farmers lack the training and resources to introduce improved and sustainable farming methods.

Tiyeni will train farmers in our innovative form of climate-smart agriculture, Deep Bed Farming (DBF) and provide additional capacity-building for farmers on how to monitor soil health on their farmland. DBF will empower farmers to build climate-resilient self-sustaining livelihoods that regenerate the natural environment. Through the additional capacity-building on how to monitor soil health, communities will be more resilient and better-equipped to respond to our world’s changing climate.
