We offer free tutoring to aspiring young composers from non-fee-paying schools, providing a unique insight into composition as a career that can act as a catalyst for those unsure whether to pursue music further. Each year we recruit 50 students (11-18yrs) and match them with professional musicians.

Composition is the lifeblood of classical music but barely factors in today's curriculum. The All-Party Parliamentary Group for Music Education also found “music is no longer taught across KS3 in more than 50% of state-funded secondary schools”. By offering compositional tutoring to state-students this scheme is designed to address this. Andrew Lloyd Webber wrote “Classical Music must not be the preserve of the rich”, a belief that drives our work to facilitate young under-privileged musicians.
We provide 50 students with a comprehensive overview of the elements surrounding composition, helping them to develop their skills and areas of interest as they each write a new choral work. 40 Apprentices take part in a series of workshops featuring industry experts. 10 outstanding applicants receive 10 hours of 1-to-1 mentoring, have their music workshopped by our ensemble and later performed at the Three Choirs Festival. The scheme is promoted in coordination with Music Hubs to 4000+ schools.
