Through our global BOS partnership, we work to reverse the decline of critically endangered Bornean orangutans and restore their rainforest homes. Our rescue, rehabilitation and release efforts ensure displaced orangutans can return to the wild. If this isn’t possible, lifetime care is provided.

The critically endangered Bornean orangutans, native only to the island of Borneo, face displacement from habitat loss and the illegal wildlife trade. BOS rescues, rehabilitates, and releases as many orphaned or displaced orangutans as possible to ensure not only their survival but also to build back the decreasing wild populations. These “Gardeners of the Forest” are essential to Borneo's ecosystems and the future of our global climate.

BOS Foundation is the largest great ape conservation operation in the world, operating two rescue centres in Borneo with expert teams trained to effectively rescue, rehabilitate, and move orangutans from these centres to pre-release islands before being released into protected forests or Sanctuary Islands for unreleasable orangutans. Each release involves months of planning and careful execution, followed by two years of monitoring and tracking to ensure the species thrives for generations.
