Situation
“As a young disabled musician, you have very few opportunities, as most music groups for young people are not inclusive at all. And you don’t have any role models either. There aren't many well-known disabled musicians. So lots of young disabled musicians have nowhere to go, no one to play with, and their talents are wasted.” Jonah, NOYO trombonist Young disabled people face multiple barriers to playing music with others. Many orchestras do not know how to change to include and support them.
Solution
“We can make big things when we work together.” Young musician, Ridgeway School We work alongside young disabled people, education and arts organisations to open up music. Young people aged 5 to 25 will explore their musical potential through our network of 60 special school orchestras, and in our disabled-led national youth orchestra initiative. We will share our learning and resources with other organisations to help them offer music activities that are accessible for young disabled musicians.
