Help our small woods grow into mighty marvels! During National Tree Week every donation you make to our Save our Small Woodlands campaign could be doubled, giving our native trees, plants and wildlife across the Yorkshire Dales the best chance to thrive.

Just 9% of England’s native woodlands are in good ecological condition, primarily due to inappropriate management, and one third of all woodland species are in decline. Small woodlands of 3 hectares or below have the potential to become biodiverse, resilient habitats for nature and people – but many are unmanaged and overlooked. We urgently need to help landowners and communities to actively care for their small woodlands – to improve biodiversity, benefit wildlife and boost tree health.
YDMT’s Woodland Management project will be a catalyst for change in our small woodlands. We will work with landowners and communities to create exciting plans for their woodlands to support more wildlife and fund the practical works needed - like coppicing, identifying and protecting future veteran trees, creating glades and underplanting. And we will bring people together to help nurture our woods, giving them the skills and knowledge to care for them in future.
