We want to ensure that fuel poverty in Birmingham is reduced. Social inequalities and vulnerability mean some residents are living in cold, damp homes with rising energy bills. We will ensure we give people the knowledge and tools to reduce their bills, live more comfortably, and sustainably.

In Birmingham, due to the cost-of-living crisis and rising energy costs, 101,097 households are living in fuel poverty (around 23% of homes in the city). These families are living in cold, damp and often mouldy homes. From our community conversations, we know that these household are unaware of energy saving solutions they could apply to reduce costs, or how to manage the relationship with their energy suppliers. There is also a belief that sustainable options are unaffordable and inaccessible.

Our beneficiaries have little trust in Government and large organisations, and prefer advise from community organisations, like ecobirmingham. Our qualified energy advisor will meet individuals at community events and offer our services, which will include: light-touch advice (generic advice), follow-up home visits (for in-depth and tailored advice), presentations to larger groups, and providing supplies such as LED light bulbs, blankets, radiator and window insulation and draught excluders.
