We want to make Birmingham a healthier and happier place to live by improving access to outdoor education opportunities for children. Providing access to outdoor learning and play opportunities will encourage the next generation of children to appreciate and care for nature and our planet.

Birmingham families face challenges accessing nature due to time and financial constraints worsened by the cost-of-living crisis. We know that the UK falls behind other European countries in nature engagement, and engagement is key to increased wellbeing. Limited nature exposure in childhood hinders future outdoor habits, contributing to lower national wellbeing. Raising children that respect and care for nature is important for the future of our environment, their happiness and wellbeing.

ecobirmingham's Creative Education projects focus on outdoor education, emphasising nature connection for children. Examples include Stories for Nature and Wild Holiday Bunch. Stories for Nature offers pre-schoolers outdoor sessions in a biodiverse garden, guided by parents. Wild Holiday Bunch provides subsidised or fully funded places for 6-12-year-olds during school holidays. Children lead outdoor activities, explore, and prepare healthy campfire lunches, fostering a love for nature.
