We aim to protect a vital wildlife corridor connecting Cameroon’s biodiversity hotspots with the Congo basin, enhance forest conservation, increase wildlife populations, and promote local economic development through the creation of community forests and training and equipping community rangers.

Situation
The Deng Deng National Park and the Dja Biosphere Reserve in eastern Cameroon are biodiversity hotspots, connecting Cameroon's diverse wildlife with the Congo basin. While the DBR is recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a critical zone for biodiversity conservation, the DDNP hosts many endangered species, including the critically endangered western lowland gorilla. However, these areas are currently separated, leaving species vulnerable to threats such as poaching and inbreeding.
Solution
This project aims to protect this corridor, preventing genetic inbreeding and local extinction of threatened species, while supporting local livelihoods and economic development through community forest management initiatives. Through the creation of community forests and training and equipping community rangers, we seek to enhance forest conservation, increase wildlife populations, and benefit households in the region.
