For many receiving Mountbatten’s care, this will be their last Christmas. We want to light up the lives of those receiving our care, ensuring more people can spend their last Christmas in the comfort of their own homes, surrounded by loved ones, with the expert care of our Community Nurses.

Marie Curie statistics show that in 2019, 6.9% of deaths on the Isle of Wight were preceded by at least 3 emergency admissions in the last 3 months of life. Emergency admissions increase NHS pressure, and with Isle of Wight deaths set to rise by 33% by 2040, strain on services will grow. Across England, around 25% of people needing palliative care do not receive it and out-of-hours palliative care remains challenging, with many struggling to access urgent medication at night and on weekends.
Mountbatten’s Community Nurses reduce the number of admissions by ensuring people are receiving the care they need before they reach an emergency situation. Our 24/7 care includes pain and symptom management, psychological, and emotional support, ensuring patients are comfortable and their families are supported. The funding will enhance our ability to provide these services during the Christmas season, ensuring no one has to spend their last Christmas alone or in discomfort.
