Rangpur division, in northwest Bangladesh, is historically underserved. Poverty levels have risen here over the last 10 years, alongside increasing number and severity of climate disasters. Many families live in ‘katcha’ (temporary) or ‘semi-pucca’ (semi-permanent) housing, both highly susceptible to damage due to poor design and construction materials. The work addresses three key issues – unsanitary conditions, household air pollution, and unsafe construction.

We will provide housing support to over 1,200 people (80%+ women/children) through construction training, housing advice, financial savings support, co-design, construction, and housing maintenance. The project has been developed through in-depth community consultation, in collaboration with our local partner, Nirapod Bangladesh Songstha. Our work shows that investing in women, within the built environment, creates ripple effects across communities.
