There is no dedicated hub for Irish language learners in the Castlewellan area. We currently provide a range of programmes each year which are dependent on us finding spaces to rent or approaching other businesses in the community. There are 360 young people receiving formal education through the medium of Irish in the area and we provide 10 classes for adult learners. These people and their families need a cross-community space to avail of social, cultural and learning opportunities.

With a dedicated hub, GUT will be able to focus on broadening its cultural offering, in particular attracting local people with different backgrounds to socialize. We will be able to expand what we already do, including Irish language classes, film nights and workshops. The refurbished building will lead to employment opportunities and provide a permanent space to our partners, the Irish language playgroup and nursery school.
