Only children in Grades 1-5 receive daily school meals, leaving those in Grades 6-11 hungry, watching the younger ones eat. Since the economic crisis, many families struggle to feed themselves, leading to poor nutrition and skipped meals. This harms children's health, causing fainting, serious malnutrition, disengagement, and school dropouts, increasing admissions to childcare institutions. The future generation's health and education are at risk, impacting the country's overall development.

A project providing nutritious, daily mid-meals at a school in the poorest area of rural Sri Lanka, will alleviate some of the acute difficulties disadvantaged families are facing during the country’s ongoing economic crisis. Staff, parents and 238 children between the ages of 5-18 will receive healthy food, nutrition training, and agricultural crop planting training in the school fields to provide sustainability.
