CWRC offers a safe and trauma-informed environment providing educational courses, group activities and individual support services to help encourage, educate and empower women taking steps for a better future. We also provide the Freedom Programme for women subjected to domestic abuse. For more than forty years, CWRC has been providing essential support for women, including those who are facing poverty, homelessness, poor housing, involvement with the criminal justice system, or abuse and trauma. We are now supporting twice as many women as five years ago, while funding is decreasing year-on-year, and this poses a very real risk to the future of CWRC's vital services for women.

Situation
Globally, women are disproportionately affected by poverty, discrimination, inter-personal sexual violence and exploitation. Safety, both physical and emotional, is a key benefit of women-only services. Women need to feel supported & comfortable in order to share their stories & thereby get the support they need to find solutions. 35% of children in Peterborough live in poverty, creating challenges for their female carers inc food, fuel & financial poverty, abuse, language & religious barriers.
Solution
By supporting these women they become empowered and develop confidence, greater independence and higher self-esteem. They are less marginalised and isolated and feel more able to express themselves. We provide a number of classes and support groups to encourage participation, peer support, further indepence, skills, the ability to be a role model to others and partaking in the wider community and employment. We also signpost to benefits and other avenues of practical support.
