Empower street youth in Freetown to take charge of their own wellbeing using yoga to lower stress levels, release trauma and rebalance the nervous system. Our yoga sessions boost resilience and the ability to make better choices in life. They are always followed by a warm nutritious meal.

The Hope Project is targeted at promoting mental health and wellbeing, and preventing the use of kush, a highly addictive street drug ravaging Freetown slums youths. The inspiration for this project came from one of our yoga teacher trainees in Sierra Leone. He had himself lived on the street for many years, experiencing hardship and addiction. Yoga training gave him a taste of wellbeing, and he brought to us his dream of sharing what he had learned with other homeless street youth.

The aim of our yoga outreach work is to help generate new healthy habits and improve mental and physical health among youth in Freetown slums and ghettos. We support and supervise a team of six trainers in Freetown in engaging various communities of street youth who share a commitment to take back control over their lives. Many of the participants live on one meal a day and no access to health care, so we combine our sessions in the slums with a warm nutritious meal and monthly nurse visit.
