The Ocean faces many threats within the climate and biodiversity crisis, but it also provides many opportunities in addressing these challenges. The Ocean covers 70% of the earth, provides food, generates oxygen, absorbs heat and captures carbon. For people in the UK it is a critical element in our heritage, culture and societal wellbeing. Part of the climate and biodiversity crisis is that people have become isolated, lonely and disconnected from the natural world that sustains us.

We see an opportunity for a new programme that will bring together groups from across generations in a programme of shared marine citizenship to celebrate the benefits that the Ocean brings to wellbeing. We are endlessly optimistic that by nurturing intergenerational communities with the Ocean as a connecting element, we can build a movement of wellbeing and a healthy Ocean for all.
