In 2026, for the first time in 12 years, DMAC will present its collection of British art and craft anew. Supporting this project will help us kick start this exciting work. Working with local communities, we will dive deep into the Collection to tell hidden stories which reflect today’s world.

Over 80% of the museum’s collection has never been displayed. We are eager to unveil these hidden treasures and share the stories of the craftspeople who created them through a contemporary lens. By exploring the untold narratives within our collection, we can represent a broader and more diverse range of craftspeople, their work, and their lives. This approach will allow us to offer new, contemporary perspectives on early 20th-century craft and design.
We know that people face countless barriers when it comes to accessing museums. We want to build deep, meaningful relationships with communities, who, alongside experts, will help us uncover and share new stories about our Collection, through a 21st century lens. This project will help us democratise our Collection and build local ownership of the heritage we preserve, whilst improving access for visitors through hands on experiences, like handling samples and multisensory displays.
