Situation
1 in 10 children in Thailand experience food poverty, which threatens their health and development. Due to the sharp increase in meat prices in the region, many children live off diets of plain rice and noodles, as families struggle to afford nutrient-rich foods like eggs, legumes, fish, poultry, or meat. Families and care providers are feeling the burden of not being able to provide the nutritious meals that their children need to thrive both at home and at school.
Solution
This project will provide 33,000 nutritious meals to children from ethnic minority groups in north and northwest Thailand. These children are vulnerable and marginalised. Many have been displaced, experienced trauma and live below the poverty line. Through the project, we will provide two meals a day containing protein, vegetables, and rice. Provision of a well-rounded and stable diet will allow children to focus on their education and develop physically and mentally without the worry of hunger.
