Situation
According to the Ministry of Justice, around 80 per cent of those receiving cautions or convictions have offended before. To reduce crime we need to reduce the number of people reoffending. Rehabilitation and training opportunities to enable prisoners to live crime-free on release have shrunk drastically in the last ten years. Prisoners have unmet needs to gain education, learn skills and participate in activities which can build their confidence, enable them to find work on release.
Solution
Not only does rehabilitation and training restore prisoners’ dignity and self-confidence, it has a direct impact on reoffending rates and reduces their dependence on social support and on the state. Having a job is a significant factor in getting their lives back on track. We create a journey for each stitcher, encompassing the development of hard and soft employability skills and building a range of networks and communities that contribute to further skill development and positive influence.
