Syrian refugee children in Iraq face the impact of trauma (often generational), long-term displacement, loss of education and hope, resulting in long term mental health issues and increased vulnerability. Economic crisis exacerbates stress on families - financial struggles can result in child protection issues such as exploitation, child marriage, child labour, abuse and neglect. Perspectives on/deficit of support for children with special needs leaves them particularly vulnerable & isolated.

By running child friendly spaces in the camp which meet children's needs holistically, including the need to play! We offer trauma recovery, child protection services, developmental support and educational opportunities for children + targeted support to those with special needs and their families, ensuring access to education, therapy and combatting isolation. Our project complements the school system and many staff have lived experience of the complex needs in a protracted emergency situation.
