The demand for our Welfare Benefits service remains high, with over seventy people waiting to receive free, legal and confidential advice regarding benefit entitlements and grant availabilities. Funding could help us reach more older people and alleviate the financial burdens that they face.

More older and vulnerable people are coming to Age UK Bexley for help, particularly with the cost of living crisis, because their claim for Attendance Allowance has either been declined, they are not aware they are entitled to it, or they need help to make claims. A successful claim for Attendance Allowance, for example, could result in over an astonishing £5,000 per person a year in extra income, making all the difference to someone’s wellbeing.

We are seeking funding to recruit a new staff member to join our Welfare Benefits team who will significantly help reduce our waiting list of people waiting to receive our support. Last year we recruited 3 new part time staff who were able to provide benefits advice for 95% more clients than in the previous year (741 compared to 380) and raised an additional income of £1,944,317 for local residents. With an additional member of staff we can ensure more people benefit from this valuable service.
