Situation
Botanic Gardens collectively conserve more than 40% of threatened plant species in their living collections and seed banks. They also lead the world in conservation, education and research into plant species. This work is knowledge intensive and many gardens around the world (where often the greatest plant diversity is found) are struggling to have access to mentorship, resources or a place to share knowledge.
Solution
This appeal is to support and increase skills development and skills sharing between experts around the world, allowing gardens in high biodiversity areas to access best practice and tailored guidance to their regions and plant collections. This will be done through BGCI’s Global Botanic Garden Fund, which has disbursed grants of £2,500 to gardens worldwide since 2019.
