Situation
Children who didn’t get enough of the right movement opportunities as babies can have under-developed sensorimotor systems and be seriously disadvantaged for the rest of their lives. They struggle to manage everyday activities; even things like writing, or sitting on a chair without having to concentrate hard to not fall off! Core strength and co-ordination are an essential stable platform for things like sensory processing, bodily regulation, emotional regulation, relationships, and learning.
Solution
We will share knowledge and understanding of the development of foundation sensorimotor systems with staff and parents through educational sessions and practical activities. We will provide resources and support to devise and embed opportunities for this development in the Early Years provision and at home to enable children to make better progress in their learning and be more able to carry out tasks and activities with less stress, enhancing their self-esteem and improving their life chances.
