Christmas is meant to be the most wonderful time of the year, but for the 3,500 women, children and men we support every December, it can be a frightening and isolating time. With your support, we can reach victims and survivors across Yorkshire that urgently need our help.

Domestic abuse takes place every day of the year, but over the festive season perpetrators may use increased alcohol consumption, money worries, and more time at home as an excuse for escalating abusive behaviour. In 2020, the NSPCC estimated that at least 15,000 children were living in a household where domestic abuse took place during the two weeks of Christmas. We see an increase in referrals to our services every December, followed by a surge in helpline calls in the New Year.

By contributing to our urgent appeal we’ll be able to staff our Live Chat service over the festive season, offering victims and survivors of domestic abuse a discrete way to reach out for support and helping them to safety plan so that they can protect themselves and their children. We'll be able to answer every call to our free, confidential helpline into the New Year, offering a literal lifeline to victims and survivors who cannot face another year living in fear.
