Far too often, the magnificent animals of the Amazon fall victim to illegal trafficking. When CIWY rescues these animals, they are usually injured, malnourished, and lack the skills to survive in the wild. In recent years, due to climate change and irresponsible land management, wildfire in the Amazon has also become a major threat to wild animals and their habitat.

CIWY protects over 1300 hectares of Amazon habitat and cares for over 500 rescued animals at its sanctuaries. For the animals who can regain survival skills, we carefully facilitate reintroduction. We also work to combat the root problems that threaten biodiversity. We collaborate with law enforcement to fight the illegal wildlife trade, we share sustainable land management techniques, including fire prevention, with farmers, and we educate youth about the values of environmental conservation.
