One in seven people face hunger across the UK because they simply don’t have enough money. At our community cookery school we will tackle this injustice by delivering 5,000 nutritious meals, providing Christmas hampers & holding 30 free cookery classes.

Situation
Multiple Hackney areas are in the 10% most deprived. 22% of residents were estimated to be earning below the Living Wage in 2021. Before the cost of living crisis Hackney Council was concerned about food poverty and the food bank alone had seen a surge of 50%. Hackney is one of four local authorities in London with the highest child poverty rates (45%). Between 2003-2018, ~4,000 people did not live as long as they could in Hackney because of differences in wealth.
Solution
We will provide wraparound food support together with our community. The focus will be 'Community Made' where the community come together to cook 200 portions of food delivered to individuals at home with limited mobility, hostels & foodbanks. We will also put on 30 cooking sessions prioritising nutrition & health for marginalised groups. Our activities build resilience & reduce impact of poverty on health, whilst improving wellbeing in the short-term through nutritious meals & recipes.
