In India, 35 million children aged 6–14 years do not attend school. 53% of girls in the 5–9-year age group are illiterate with many teenage girls forced into marriage. In South Africa, 13 million children live in poverty. It is one of the most violent countries in the world with girls & women particularly at risk. In Mexico, more than a third of the population live in poverty. The high school drop-out rate for girls is significant, due to increased household duties & teenage pregnancies.
Christel House currently operates 9 no-fee schools around the world. In 2025, we are opening 3 additional schools in India, South Africa and Mexico which will provide top quality education and holistic support services to more students from extremely under-served households at no cost. Empowering girls is a key part of our model. We prioritise STEM-education and careers, provide on-site social & healthcare services, and support students to age 23 to ensure they become upwardly mobile citizens.
