Prison Fellowship Scotland works with people in prison, addressing issues of repeat offending, and gives them a place to explore faith and consider how they can turn their lives around. Our volunteers run activities in every prison and support families at key times of the year.

Spending time in prison is always going to be a harsh experience. The prison population is at an all-time high and the UK prison system focuses largely on the retributive side of justice with little focus on rehabilitation or restoration. There is a massive problem of reoffending with 24% of people reconvicted within one year of offending as well as a mental health crisis evidenced by record-high numbers of self-harm and more people than ever asking for support in prison.

Through our partnership with the Scottish Prison Service, we run programmes that provide opportunity for those in prison to spend time out of their cells engaging in purposeful activity... During this out-of-cell time, they meet with committed and trained volunteers who help them engage in activities that help them think beyond the context of their prison sentence and are about improving their sense of self-worth and addressing the issues that have led them to be in prison in the first place.
