A child experiences a finite number of Christmases, remembering them forever. These memories for children of people in prison are often painful. Togetherness is replaced with separation, indulgence with poverty, joy and celebration with blame and sadness, and warmth and welcome with exclusion and shame. Such problems are not temporary; memories carry harm a long way. And, for each parent, feelings of helplessness and resentment can lead to family breakdown, damaging their rehabilitation.

Prison Fellowship volunteers work with prison chaplains and local churches to enable people in prison to choose a Christmas gift for their child (as long as they are permitted access). Our volunteers then buy, wrap and deliver the presents. Each gift is dispatched as though it is from the parent in prison and is accompanied by a personal message written by the parent for their child. Last year we delivered gifts to 5,172 children of parents in prison.
