Funding will provide wellbeing support/activities during the build up to Christmas, empowering 150 disadvantaged girls to know their worth is not determined by presents/how they celebrate. We support them to be resilient to what they see on social media/from friends and maintain positive wellbeing.

Situation
Christmas can be a difficult time for disadvantaged families, with increased pressure to be seen as leading the 'perfect life'. For young people we support this is not reality as many face challenges including living in poverty, complex family dynamics and unhealthy relationships. Comparing their Christmas to what they see on social media diminishes their confidence and self-worth, leading to many self-harming, having suicidal thoughts and reverting back to unhealthy coping mechanisms.
Solution
Our 17 weekly support groups provide a space for girls who share in their experiences to share without judgement and understand that they are not alone. Sessions give girls something to look forward to, using interactive activities to provide light-touch emotional and social support on a range of topics including self-esteem, body image and gratitude. We organise crafts and use games/discussion to explore the feelings they are experiencing at what can be a difficult time of year.
