Hundreds of people in immigration detention will spend the holidays alone. Their holiday season will be spent in prison-like conditions, separated from their loved ones. It seems unthinkable this is happening in the UK, but each year, the Home Office detains over 15,000 people without trial and with no legal-time limit on how long they can be there. The oppressive and out of sight nature of places of immigration detention mean human rights abuses are prevalent and difficult to contest.

In our best efforts to ensure people in immigration detention are treated fairly and with dignity, our Casework Service provides free information, practical advice and emotional support to people being held in detention. It is a lifeline to many. Each year, we support hundreds of people and help them access the information, tools and services they urgently need to regain their freedom.
