Situation
There are currently around 800 domesticated elephants in Southern Thailand, spread across 14 provinces. Many of their owners (mahouts) are often unable to afford veterinary care but depend on their elephants for a living. The cost of medicines alone (for 2025) needed to treat around 360 elephants (about 40% of the local elephant population) is circa £18,000.
Solution
STEF Provides free veterinary care to ensure mahouts can provide their elephants with a happy and healthy future. This not only helps protect these endangered animals, but also allows us to educate mahouts so they can better care for their elephants. By raising funds to contribute towards the purchase of medicines and basic supplies, STEF aims to treat all elephants that require our care, as well as providing annual health checks across the region in 2025.
