Together with local partner FSC, the project aims to reduce teenage pregnancy rates in isolated Romanian villages and will fund health workers to deliver targeted sexual and reproductive health sessions to 500 village children, aged 12-14, who are living in poverty and at risk of teenage pregnancy.

The project aims to reduce teenage pregnancy rates in rural Romanian villages by addressing the need for pregnancy prevention health education. The National Institute of Statistics 2023 data show Romania had the highest number of teenage deliveries in the EU. Of these teenagers, 745 were aged between 10 and 14 years. Save the Children Romania state 80% of teenage mothers do not go to school and 40% do not access medical services during pregnancy, resulting in health risks to mother and child.

Our partner FSC has a long history of providing educational services to disadvantaged children via its 'Club with Glue'. Their aim is to set up a mobile caravan which will travel to ten rural villages with a team of health professionals to deliver targeted, interactive general health and sexual and reproductive health education sessions to children in local schools. Children rarely learn about these topics at home or school. The programme will fill the gap in education provision in these areas.
