Primary Robins is a nationwide project in 55 schools which supports children from disadvantaged communities in schools where there is no music. Every week of the school year our teachers (all trained musicians) deliver a half-hour singing class to 6,510 children at no cost to the schools or parents.

Situation
50 years ago, every primary school had children sitting around a piano learning songs. Today there are many where there is no music, particularly in disadvantaged communities with low KS2 results and higher-than-average numbers of children receiving free school meals. Music is challenging for non-specialist teachers and schools can't afford to buy in expert tuition. Children have little/no exposure to music - parents do not have the funds to join local music projects or enjoy live performance.
Solution
The project is startling in its simplicity and effectiveness: classes gather every week and learn songs from specially-prepared songbooks with our classically trained teachers. Many songs turn out to be familiar to Robins’ families who attend end of term concerts. Robins participate at no cost to either the schools or the parents. All three benefit: the children, the parents and the school. Teachers acquire new skills and confidence delivering music. Today there are 6,510 Robins nationwide.
