IYM will engage 450 young people from local schools in Newcastle, many of whom have never visited a theatre. They’ll watch a show, join a workshop, and tour our iconic theatre. IYM will inspire creativity, enhance wellbeing, and provide cultural exposure, sparking social/economic positive change.

Newcastle is rated 32 out of 151 on the Index of Deprivation, with 1 being the most deprived. One in four wards are in the top 10% of most deprived communities nationally. Almost 40% of Newcastle school age children are considered “disadvantaged”. Investing in the cultural/ personal development of young people, aims to break the cycle of deprivation. It provides experiences and inspiration which can lead to better educational outcomes, enhanced wellbeing and a brighter future.

We seek to work with targeted schools in Newcastle, over the next year. 450 young people (aged 5-19) will visit the theatre, watch a show, participate in a workshop and receive a tour of our city centre venue. IYM aligns with our strategic objective to ‘Produce a Creative Engagement Programme providing pathways/ opportunities for Newcastle communities’. IYM will connect participants with cultural activities outside their area, inspiring creativity and supporting wellbeing.
