Situation
Little Green Pig believes that every child, whatever their background, has a right to experience the magic and benefits of writing but many young people miss out on this opportunity due to poverty, disability, or other life challenges. Something magical happens when we pick up a pen and write; we develop empathy, we build new connections and we grow our self-worth. Little Green Pig exists so that every child and young person can get creative with words, be inspired and share their stories.
Solution
We run writing clubs for children and young people aged 7-16 from Brighton, Worthing and Eastbourne communities with the highest rates of child poverty, poorest health outcomes and lowest levels of education and employment. Writing clubs are led by professional writers and provide young people with weekly support through: -1:1 support from Volunteer Story Mentors -A safe, creative space –A community of writers -Turning young writers’ words into professional books, performances and films
