    Loneliness and isolation are very real for many older people, even those with the most caring of families can feel isolated from their community and peers. Reduced mobility, illness, anxiety, loss of close friends and companions or even the location in which people live can lead considerable deconditioning of a person's physical and mental wellbeing as they age. Just having someone who you can call for a chat, send a message to, or arrange to meet up for lunch, simply isn't an option for our

    At Age UK Northumberland, one of our key goals is to tackle the challenge of loneliness and isolation, we provide friendship services to people who cannot easily get out of their homes through our friendship line and social groups for those who are wishing to make connections face to face. We currently support nearly 300 people through these services but we need to do more and the only way that we can do this is with greater funding.
