We believe in that music education should be for all. We support Gallions Primary School (a state primary in Newham, one of the most deprived boroughs in the UK) to give every pupil an experience of music beyond the national curriculum: small group lessons, choirs, orchestras and individual lessons.

Statutory funding for music provision limits what the school is able to offer: one hour of Musicianship lessons a week. While a fantastic start, it does not allow for a genuine introduction to the potential that music can offer. Newham is one of the most deprived boroughs in England with poverty affecting approximately 44% of the children. Over 40% of our pupils have English as an additional language and we have an SEN provision for 5% of pupils. Music enables the whole school to learn together.

Gallions Music Trust funds bursaries for individual lessons for talented students, choir, both junior and senior orchestra and the music provision for pupils with SEN. Beyond this core activity, we aim to support extra workshops with professional musicians and opportunities to perform in and to attend concerts. This in depth music education not only supports pupils to perform better academically through increased focus and concentration but also opens them up to a life enriched through music.
