People with albinism (PWA) are a violently persecuted minority in Africa, and are marginalised, mutilated and murdered simply for the colour of their skin. To protect and empower this vulnerable group, Standing Voice delivers health, welfare, education, advocacy and community development projects.

Across Africa, albinism is poorly understood & the subject of various myths & superstitions. 827 people with albinism have been attacked, including 234 people murdered, across 30 countries since 2006. Ostracised & hunted because of their skin colour, people with albinism are excluded from essential services such as healthcare, education & employment opportunities. The population faces a skin cancer crisis & chronic economic insecurity in addition to the threat of witchcraft-motivated violence.
We address the needs of PWA through a range of programmes in health, welfare, education, advocacy and economic empowerment. We provide tailored support for survivors of violence; operate clinical networks to treat low vision and prevent skin cancer; relocate children with albinism from segregated institutions to inclusive schools and universities; and rehabilitate hundreds of adults through training and apprenticeships. We amplify the voices of PWA and equip them with the tools to prosper.
