We are ambitious to turn the tide on rising childhood obesity. Through the Real Food Rebellion, an accessible schools-based project, we will educate and empower 5,000 children, young people and their families to make healthy food choices for better physical and mental health.

Our childhood obesity epidemic is worsening with rising consumption of ultra-processed foods. In 2019/20, 23% of 4-5 year olds in England were overweight or obese (up from 21% in 2014/15), as were 35% of children aged 10-11 (up from 33%). Children in the most deprived decile are 5 times more likely to be severely obese when leaving primary school. Childhood weight gain is causing complex health problems: early onset Type 2 diabetes, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and poor mental health.

By delivering our modular schools-based programme, Real Food Rebellion (RFR), to 5,000 children, young people and their families UK-wide. RFR was developed with leading experts in health and nutrition with teachers, and pre-piloted in 5 primary and secondary schools with impressive results. Multimedia resources (e.g. real food recipes) increase knowledge, confidence and understanding of ultra-processed foods and real food choices to improve children’s health and wellbeing now and in the future.
