We are dedicated to building a brighter future for people with inherited progressive sight loss. A core way we do this is through fundraising for cutting edge research into inherited sight loss, to accelerate the search for treatments.

Situation
Inherited sight loss conditions are the most common cause of blindness in working-age people in the UK, and symptoms often begin in childhood. These conditions cause great anxiety and feelings of isolation, due to their unpredictable and progressive nature. There are not yet cures for 99.7% of people with inherited sight loss, and 49% of people report that their condition has a severe or very severe impact on their quality of life.
Solution
Retina UK is currently supporting cutting-edge medical research into treatments at institutions like UCL Institute of Ophthalmology, Newcastle University and Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health. As Chloe, whose daughter has inherited sight loss says, “With investment in research, parents with children affected by inherited progressive sight loss can dare to think of a different future for our children, and gather the strength needed to provide support for them in the here and now"
