The reality of winter for thousands of people in the south west is less than festive: an impossible choice between heating and eating amid an ongoing cost-of-living crisis. Bring less waste, more joy this Christmas by helping us to save quality food from landfill and get it to people in need.

Right now, 1.1 million children and adults in the south west are living in poverty. Food insecurity levels have doubled since the pandemic, and healthy food is on average over twice as expensive per calorie, meaning thousands are unable to get the nutrition needed to thrive. Meanwhile, 4.6 million tonnes of good-to-eat food – enough for over ten billion meals – is thrown away every year before it even gets to people’s homes. Our goal is to join the dots between hunger and food waste this winter.

FareShare South West works with farmers and food suppliers to rescue good food from going to landfill, supporting thousands of local people struggling to afford the basics to get by in a cost-of-living crisis. This Christmas, our incredible volunteers will pack and deliver food for hungry children, people facing homelessness, older people at risk of loneliness and many others. Uniquely, the majority (60%) of the food we share is fresh, high-value fruit, veg, meat, dairy and fish.
