Situation
Community music making boosts health & wellbeing, helps children succeed in school, broadens horizons and brings people together. However, it requires a specialist skillset, and while there is huge demand for music leaders, aspiring musicians struggle to get a foot on the ladder: training is scarce, on-the-job experience is key but often requires unpaid work, and people who are disabled, of Global Majority heritage or from lower socioeconomic backgrounds are underrepresented in the workforce.
Solution
Our inclusive project will harness the potential of budding music leaders from diverse backgrounds. We’ll fill the training gap and provide the support needed to forge fulfilling careers: 1) 3 Young Associates (YAs) will be trained by BSO experts, gaining vital skills and experience 2) After training, they’ll be employed to work on BSO projects as they launch careers 3) Through a series of residential weekends, 20-25 aspiring music leaders will learn key skills and build a professional network
