Peterborough Cathedral’s music team looks after and provides a first class musical education for 52 young choristers and 75 young people in our junior and youth choirs. These choirs, along with music scholars and adult musicians, provide beautiful choral music for eight Cathedral services per week.

The role of Peterborough Cathedral’s music department is to sustain and develop the great tradition of choral music at the heart of the life of our ancient Cathedral and wider city, diocese and region. At any given time the Cathedral enables over 50 choristers – drawn from a local state school and reflecting the diversity of our city – to benefit from a world class musical education. The Cathedral’s junior and youth choirs provide excellent musical opportunities for a further 75 young people.

The Cathedral’s music team works tirelessly to educate and encourage the young musicians in its care, and to support them to achieve the highest possible standards. Our choirs provide choral music at eight services per week at the Cathedral, which are free and open for all to attend, whatever their faith or belief. The choirs’ busy schedules include special services marking key moments in the life of the city and nation, plus exciting projects such as commissioning and performing new music.
