Through the Big Give, we have a match funding opportunity to sustain 14 new Street cricket projects in deprived communities across London. The aim is to improve the physical and mental wellbeing of inactive young people who face increased barriers (cost, discrimination, accessibility) to playing sport.

Currently only 1 in 2 children get the recommended physical activity each day and research shows this is due to clear inequalities. Children are far less likely to be active, and therefore benefit from the positive impact of sport, if they are a girl, from a diverse community or from lower socio-economic backgrounds. Due to the cost-of-living crisis, this problem will worsen for thousands of children in London as they miss out on the physical, mental, personal and social benefits of playing sport

We have identified 14 locations for Street cricket projects in London, which don’t have free and local sporting opportunities for young people. Street cricket is a fast, inclusive and exciting version of the game. The two-hour, weekly sessions run all year round and take place in youth clubs, parks, schools for two age groups - Youths (8–15) and Young Adults (16–24). Street allows girls and boys to play together (but we also provide girls only projects). Projects run after school or at weekends and they are free for participants, and players don’t need to bring any kit/equipment.
