Every year, 1 in 7 babies is born sick or premature. They have a hard start in life, needing specialised care and often long stays on a neonatal unit. Sadly, some don’t survive. For parents, this is scary and overwhelming. With little knowledge of neonatal care, they are thrown into a world of worrying procedures and terminology. Research shows that active parental involvement improves babies’ outcomes. But this can be hard. Instead of happy cuddles, parents often fear even holding their baby.
