A warm place to sleep is something most of us take for granted: a place of comfort, rest and security. But more than a million children in the UK don’t have one. Together we can provide a warm, safe place to sleep for every child who needs one in Surrey and Croydon.

Every child needs a good night’s sleep to thrive. However, many of the families we support need to prioritise regular bills, the rent and food, over new beds and warm bedding. Children sharing beds, or sleeping in unsuitable beds, often struggle with tiredness, impacting their school learning, their ability to lead an active life, and their mental health. Barnardo’s recently reported that more than a million children in the UK either sleep on the floor or share a bed with parents or siblings.

Stripey Stork will provide a cot/bed, warm bedding, PJs and onesies so the children can stay warm and sleep well. Bed poverty often results from a change like a new baby being born, a broken bed, or moving to temporary accommodation, as refugees, or fleeing abuse. We provide our professional referral partners with15 cots/beds weekly. The community support us with their pre-loved cots/beds. Our volunteers ensure they meet our high safety standards, clean them and we provide a new mattress.
