Living Streets is the UK charity for everyday walking. Our mission is to encourage walking and make our streets fit for walking, tackling barriers such as pavement parking, speed limits and crossings. We advocate for safe, accessible streets and encourage walking for short journeys in communities.

A society that doesn’t walk is disconnected, less healthy, less safe and a less equal place to live, plagued by pollution and congested roads. - Physical inactivity is a public health crisis - Barriers to walking include cracked/uneven/obstructed pavements - Air pollution causes an estimated 29,000 premature deaths a year -38% of fatalities and 25% of serious injuries on roads in England are pedestrians – people from ethnic minority groups and deprived areas are over 3 x likelier to be casualties

We want to create a nation where walking is the natural choice for local journeys; free from congested roads, pollution, reducing preventable illnesses and social isolation. Our pressing issues: • Advocate for pedestrian safety, particularly in urban areas where poor pavements pose risks • Create accessible public spaces for older people, children and disabled people • Improve infrastructure; wider pavements, better crossings, and traffic calming measures, to create more walkable communities.
