Smart Works Birmingham exists to empower unemployed women in disadvantaged circumstances with the skills and confidence to break cycles of unemployment. Unemployment is one of the biggest causes of poverty in the UK, and results in a deep lack of confidence and self-belief. This is heightened in the face of the council cut backs, particularly for marginalised women. We know there are more women who need our help to secure a job, so they can start a new chapter of financial independence.

At Smart Works Birmingham women benefit from a bespoke dressing consultation where they receive a high-quality interview outfit (free and hers to keep) and one-to-one interview coaching, equipping her with the confidence and practical skills to overcome barriers to success. 72% get the job within a month of their visit and over 94% feel more confident about succeeding in their upcoming interview, more confident in their new outfit, and clearer about their strengths, skills and experiences.
