Helping children to communicate and interact through music: one-to-one music therapy for a child with complex needs can be life-changing, helping them express themselves without the need for words. Through music, the child can connect with and learn about the world around them.

Jessie's Fund is known for its work in children's hospices and special schools, but we also reach out to individual children who need our support. And with the cost-of-living crisis having had a disproportionately negative effect on their families, more and more special children need our help to access the music therapy they need. These children face barriers to communication and learning that impact on every aspect of their lives and prevent them from reaching their full potential.

Jessie's Fund will support these children with intensive one-to-one music therapy sessions. Each child will have a series of weekly sessions with their music therapist, which might include work on different musical instruments to improve fine motor skills, singing to improve speech, drumming to release difficult emotions, or even just relaxing to music to calm a child. The focus is shifted from what a child cannot do and the spotlight placed instead on all the possibilities open to that child.
