We are raising funds for our award-winning UR4Driving project which teaches ex-offenders, and young 'at risk', to drive in return for voluntary work. We want to give them the skills they need to increase their chances of securing employment and to avoid offending/re-offending.

Situation
60% of prisoners enter custody having spent much of their life outside employment.15% have never had a job. Drug, alcohol and mental health problems play their part, as does living in a deprived neighbourhood. Employment opportunities are far between. Low skills feed into low employability. Only 50% of prisoners have the reading skills, 20% have the writing skills and less than 33% have the numeracy required for 96% of jobs but a job is the single biggest factor in reducing recidivism.
Solution
UR4Driving helps break the cycle of re-offending and long-term unemployment, among ex-offenders and young ‘at risk’, by offering up to 40 driving lessons and 2 practical Driving Tests, in return for 80 hours of voluntary work. This gives them a genuinely vocational qualification which can be a gateway to employment and gives them the confidence and motivation they need by ‘opening doors’. They are mentored throughout and encouraged to engage with family members as well as the local community.
